I hope you’re finding small moments of calm in these last days of the year – moments to look back on everything that 2025 held for you and your animal.
For many animals, this time is anything but peaceful. The unusual sounds, the charged atmosphere and the fireworks can make them feel unsettled or scared.
Staying calm – for you and your animal
Our animals feel our inner state very clearly. The more we worry in advance, the more this tension reaches them.
But there’s something especially important to remember: When we tell our animals “Everything is fine” or “There’s no need to be afraid,” we mean it lovingly – yet it often lands very differently for them.
In that moment, we unintentionally signal that their emotional response is “wrong” or unjustified.
And this can make them feel unseen.
Their body reacts, their heart races, the loud noises frighten them – and they need us to acknowledge that rather than dismiss it.
What truly supports them is understanding.
Something like:
“Yes, I see that this scares you. I find that uncomfortable too.”
or
“I’m right here with you. We’ll get through this together.”
This validates their experience and gently takes the pressure out of the situation.
Understanding instead of frustration
You may sometimes feel upset with people who still set off fireworks. But this frustration is also felt by your animal. It becomes easier to stay grounded when we remind ourselves that some people associate fireworks with joy, celebration or tradition. That inner softness helps our animals as well.
Gentle support for the evening
Many animals seek closeness; some want touch, others just want us nearby. A Thundershirt or a Tellington wrap can be helpful. Music, gentle play or chewing items may also support them – depending on how available they are in that moment.
If you use pheromones or essential oils, always offer them in a way that allows your animal to choose how close they want to be.
Being a rock in the storm
Sometimes there isn’t much we can “do” – except be calm and present. Your grounded, loving energy is often the greatest support your animal can receive.
A shared moment of reflection
You might also use this evening to look back on your year together. Tell your animal about the moments that touched you – the joyful, the meaningful, the challenging ones. Animals love being included in our inner world. It creates connection… and it soothes both of you.
A wish for the new year
I wish you and your animal a gentle, safe and loving start into 2026.
May it be a year full of joy, health, clarity and inspiring encounters.
And may your bond grow even deeper, softer and more trusting.
With love,
Tanja
