Many animals love rituals and consistent routines. They provide a sense of safety, orientation, and reliability. Especially in a world where we humans often structure our days with schedules, appointments, and changing moods, regular times for feeding, walks, or shared moments can become little islands of stability for our animal companions.

Some time ago, I had the opportunity to pass on a lovely question from my Facebook group that was directed to my dog Maja. Her response was so clear, honest, and touching that I’d love to share it with you today – because it speaks not only for dogs but symbolically for many animals who live a fairly consistent daily life with us.

Question:
Do animals value routines, like fixed times for feeding and walks?

Maja:
Yes, definitely. Most of the time, our days are rather monotonous and boring, so feeding and going for a walk are real highlights we really look forward to! We know your routines and understand when it’s our turn. And when food doesn’t come at the usual time, I get very restless, wait longingly – my stomach is already growling.
You know, routine also structures my day, and I know what comes when.
Maybe it’s different for dogs who live in a camper with their humans and experience new adventures every day (we watched a video about that yesterday). For them, each day is different. But if a day is mostly the same, I definitely adjust to fairly regular times.

How beautifully clear animals can be when it comes to expressing themselves and their needs – if we’re truly willing to listen.

Maja’s words reminded me just how much our animals adapt to us – and how much we can offer them, not only by being present but also by providing a sense of reliability and clarity in daily life.

Maybe over the next few days, you’d like to take a conscious look at how your animal responds to change or consistency. Are there certain times during the day that seem especially important to them? Feeding times, walks, cuddling together?
Or perhaps you are the one longing for more rhythm, to find deeper peace together with your animal?

Animals teach us to live in the present moment – and yet they deeply appreciate knowing what this “now” will likely bring. 🐾

From heart to heart,
Tanja
